‘Two in One’
What is a two in one wedding dress/ Overskirt wedding gown?
A two in one wedding dress is a fitted bridal dress or jumpsuit that features a full detachable skirt which is generally removed after your wedding ceremony. Weddings have changed so much throughout the years, and as such, couples can follow tradition or make it unique to them when celebrating their special day. There is no ‘right or wrong’ or ‘should or shouldn’t’ when it comes to wedding planning. Think about your style: what makes you happy? What makes you comfortable? How do you envisage you big day?
One idea that you might not have even thought of is Pinterest. It is full of great ideas, shows lots of different options and offers such a strong visual perspective to help you bring it all to life. This works well for when you start to look for your wedding dress too. Your dress can be unique to you.
What do you picture when you think of your wedding?
Are you having a small intimate wedding? A church wedding? Destination wedding? Getting married in a hotel, maybe a barn wedding or will you marry in a field with teepees? The options are endless and it is the same when it comes to choosing your wedding outfit! You can opt for a beautiful timeless elegant wedding dress, a fun vintage tea length wedding dress, a modern trendy jumpsuit or a classy chic minimal wedding dress – decisions, decisions!
A two in one wedding dress is a fabulous idea for brides wanting to change their look without having to change into a different outfit. I have seen so many brides in the boutique fall in love with two different dresses and struggle to make a decision. This generally happens when the two wedding dresses are completely different. One may be a big, beautiful, bold wedding dress which the bride loves, and feels is very ‘bridal’ (bride’s words!) The other may be a more fitted, modern, chic dress which the bride feels is easier to manage throughout the day and more ‘her’. This is when a wedding dress with an overskirt could be a perfect combination.
How do they work?
They are quite simple! Whether you choose a jumpsuit or fitted dress, the skirt simply attaches over the top by the natural waist and can either fasten like a belt, or more often with small multiple hooks and eyes – don’t worry, you cant see them. Some overskirts can fasten at the back with hidden press studs. It all depends on which skirt you choose and how you would like it to look.
Fabrics also play a huge part. You could have a satin mikado overskirt, creating a more elegant timeless style. Tulle or organza is a great option. These fabrics are quite lightweight and can be simple and chic, or they can have sparkle dancing right through the train. You could also opt for full lace.
There are many ways to customise your wedding dress with overskirts and also adding/removing sleeves. Press studs can be a fantastic way to transform your wedding dress too. Cap sleeves, ¾ sleeves, long sleeves, cuff sleeves or puff sleeves! The options are endless.
Whichever overskirt you choose, you can be sure, when purchased together, it will match your dress like a dream. You will walk down the aisle in the wedding dress you have always envisioned and when your ceremony, speeches and many photographs have been taken, you can whip it off and reveal your second evening look – a beautiful fitted wedding gown/ jumpsuit! Then, you can dance the night away whilst celebrating your new beginning with your loved ones!
